Cinematic Wisdom

The best films are the ones that provide inspiration, advice, or even just food for thought for the audience. This page contains some of my favorite quotations from movies that I feel exemplify this concept. Enjoy! And I’d love to know some of your favorites ~

“Monster is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We’re just used to being the cat.” – Henry Wu, Jurassic World (2015)

“Everyone creates the thing they dread. Men of peace create engines of war, invaders create avengers. People create… smaller people? Uhh… children! Lost the word there. Children, designed to supplant them. To help them… end”   – Ultron, Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

“You can’t change your situation. The only thing that you can change is how you choose to deal with it.” – Katherine, 50/50 (2011)

“An idea is like a virus, resilient, highly contagious. The smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you.” – Dom Cobb, Inception (2010)

“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” – Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight (2008)

“The world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” – Sirius Black, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

“The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything.” – Alfred Borden, The Prestige (2006)

(L-R) Anthony DeMarco, Christian Bale

Cady-Heron-Mean-Girlscw“Calling somebody else fat won’t make you skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn’t make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George’s life definitely didn’t make me any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you.”    – Cady Heron, Mean Girls (2004)

“It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry, and forget to live.”  – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

“No one really runs away from anything. It’s like a private trap that holds us in like a prison. You know what I think? I think that we’re all in our private traps, clamped in them, and none of us can ever get out. We scratch and we claw, but only at the air, only at each other, and for all of it, we never budge an inch.” – Norman Bates, Psycho (1960)
